WE WILL NEVER STOP TRYING TO MAKE FETCH HAPPEN:  Today marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Mean Girls, so it's an appropriate time to share your memories, quotes, and wonder whether, if she'd kept it together, Lindsay Lohan could be having Emma Stone's career right now.

I haven't seen Mean Girls in, well, pushing ten years, so question for people: was Lindsay Lohan actually that good in it? Because I cannot remember a single thing about her in that movie. I'm in the age group that still quotes that film regularly, but I don't think any of her lines get quoted. I can remember a decent bit of the movie, just not her.

Can we talk about how it's a damn shame that this is Tim Meadows one good movie?

Lohan was actually THAT GOOD in both this and Freaky Friday. I think the reason her lines don't get quoted is because she's more the straight man to everyone else's crazies.

OK, fair point, I need to give that another try. I've only been able to get half an hour into it.

  7. And her work in Freaky Friday is underappreciated for the same reason. It's not showy to play an adult stuck in a kid's body. She's also pretty good in Prarie Home Companion.

I didn't make this, but whoever did is hilarious.

And also quite good in The Parent Trap.

I don't know if it's my age, or the fact that I had a not-quite-two-year-old and a five month old when Mean Girls came out, but I hadn't seen it until a few months ago. I watched it again last night (wearing pink!) and yes, Lohan is that good in it. And yes, I suspect if she'd kept it together she'd have, if not Emma Stone's career, then at least something pretty close.

I think it's amazing that so many of my students are so into this movie, considering they were somewhere between 2 and 4 years old when it was released. My classes had a LOT more pink than usual yesterday (I also wore a pink shirt, and sent all three of my own children to school in pink, even though they've never seen the movie)

There's a question - at what age are my children old enough to watch this? I'd say the oldest (a very mature almost-twelve) could watch it now. What about a fairly mature ten year old?

My almost-13 year old recently asked if she could watch it; we've deferred a ruling (given her upcoming bat mitzvah, she won't have time for the next 5 weeks anyway, and after that, I'm guessing we'll give it the OK). Our younger one is also 10, so I'm right in the same boat as you, D'Arcy.

  12. Stop trying to make "fetch" happen. It's not going to happen.

And Lohan really is great in it. Not Oscar worthy or anything, but she's likeable and believable as both the popular Plastic and nerdy Mathlete. But Rachel McAdams is great as Regina George, too. "So you agree? You think you're pretty?"
