WELL, YOUR MISTAKE IN CALLING ME "JUDGE" IS ALSO MADE IN ARTICLE III OF THE CONSTITUTION, BY THE WAY: In honor of John Paul Stevens' retirement today from a career in public service which began on December 6, 1941, as a cryptographer for the United States Navy and included almost forty years in the federal judiciary (and almost thirty-five as a Supreme), name your favorite bow-tie wearers.

  1. I know, technically, his resignation letter said his retirement would be effective "the next day after the Court rises for the summer recess this year," but today's close enough.

And I'll start the list with Orville Redenbacher.

I'm going to have to go with my commencement speaker, Bill Nye (the Science Guy)

I'll say, John Strassburger, who retires this week as President of Ursinus College, my employer:). In his honor, all of this year's graduates wore red bowties to commencement -- a touching and fun acknowledgement of his remarkable tenure.

I think you mean the 11th. And the Docent/Tourgude at the Musee D'Orsay.

11th Doctor, Mr. Finn.  Tennant was number 10. (I think 2 and 3 were bow tie men, too.)

I'll go with Les Nessman.  And Hercule Poirot!

Yes, you are correct.  For some reason, I always miscount the Doctors and think Tennant was 9.

Among favorites not yet mentioned: Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski, Donald Duck, and Brother Mouzone.

Among, um, others not yet mentioned: Tucker Carlson.

  11. Yeah, that was a really solid hour of television, though a little treacly (albeit effectively so) in the final act with them travelling with Vincent.

Come to think of it, I think of Fyvush Finkel as a bow tie wearer.

    Indeed, JJF.

I also should have noted that Donald Duck gets special mention for pairing his bow tie with no pants, which I think is unique among bow-tie aficionados.

No -- Chippendale's dancers.  At least at the end of their set.

    Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley?

    They were both bow-tie/pants/no-shirt, IIRC.

I submit that full-time pantslessness trumps.  That said, I still stand corrected, because I forgot about this cat:

I didn't realize till I read Alan's review that the Docent was played by Bill Nighy.  Who will also be playing Rufus Scrimgeour in Deathly Hallows later this year.
