YOUR CRYSTAL BALL AIN'T SO CRYSTAL CLEAR: Pitchfork lists & embeds The Top 50 Music Videos of the 1990s.

Interesting list, to be sure, but where's "Jeremy"? (The serpent was subtil!) And while Björk and Spike Jonze are well-represented on the list, where's "It's Oh So Quiet"?

  1. This is a very Pitchfork list--heavy on the indie rock stuff.  And where's "Everybody Hurts?"

I can't agree more on Coffee & TV, though. The dancing milk carton always makes me happy.

I know it's Pitchfork and it's so far out of their purview, but I can't believe that a single one of those Guns 'N Roses "Use Your Illusion" bloated epics didn't make the list. (Maybe it was because they were so bloated?" But c'mon! "November Rain?")

Weird, my entry didn't post from this morning.  Anyway, a couple of others:

Tori Amos' "God" or "Crucify," take your pick

Weird Al's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Amish Paradise."

  5. Holy cow, that Polly Jean's got presence. I still suspect she's some sort of a god stranded on this mortal plane.

Man, I loved "It's Oh So Quiet."  I had such a crush on Bjork.

...heee, remember Seal's "Crazy?"  It worked, I mean, it made him a star, but it's just a bunch of Seal sitting on a giant set-piece that looks like it was lifted from the middle of your washing machine.

  8. Thank you Ichi, I was just coming in to say the same thing.  There were easily a half dozen videos listed I would put well behind "Smack My Bitch Up".  I remember being at my boyfriend's apartment and everyone tuning into Mtv at midnight because they were going to show it.

  9. I miss spending hours on end watching music videos.  "Come to Daddy" is a good number one; I get chills just thinking about how happily freaked out I was seeing it for the first time.  "Bachelorette" is my all time favorite video, so I was happy to see it on the list.  And while I understand why "Sugarcube" gets so much love, I  think I have a greater fondness for YLT's clip for "Tom Courtenay."
