STORE THIS AWAY FOR A FUTURE TRIVIA CONTEST:  According to NYMag, Adele's “Someone Like You” is the first-ever U.S. No. 1 to feature nothing but voice and piano.  I did not know that.

  1. And the second US #1 in the past five years to not have a drum track.  (Before that?  "Hey There, Delilah.")

I'm glad.  It's been too long since we've had a good stalker song.

  3. It's easier to stalk when you don't have a bulky drumset.

Pianos, notoriously portable.  Makes Sting's upright bass seem downright pragmatic.

Did you guys know that Dan Wilson co-wrote that song?

Dan Wilson is so rad.  If all that you know of Semisonic is "Closing Time," you need to dig out that copy of Feeling Strangely Fine that you bought with your 12 Columbia selections (you know you did) and listen to the whole thing straight through.  Just sit in front of your stereo and fall in love with it.  It holds up.

But he was a lousy catcher for about a decade with the Mariners.

  8. But he also co-wrote "Not Ready To Make Nice" by the Dixie Chicks.

And produced not one but two Mike Doughty albums.

And before Semisonic, there was the even better Trip Shakespeare. The guy's been writing good songs for a long time.
