HEAD GAMES:  On September 21, Hoop Dreams director Steve James is releasing a documentary on the chronic brain trauma crisis in sports. Its trailer, featuring Chris Nowinski and a number of familiar faces, is here.

    One thing:  "The Public Health Issue of Our Time"?  Look, we ought to do something about it.  It's a bad thing and I think Nowinski is doing a great public service by championing this.

    But compared to diabetes, obesity, MRSA, and a dozen other things, this hardly deserves the definite article as public health issue.

    Love love love Hoop Dreams. That movie blew me away-- can't believe it's 18 years old now. It'll be hard to top it, but I'm very interested to see Head Games. I didn't realize Steve James directed a 30 for 30 episode on Allen Iverson.
