WHEN I THINK I'M OVER YOU, I FIND I'VE JUST BEGUN: One of the terrific things about the internets, of course, is digging through to find old songs you'd long since forgotten. I was delighted to find a clean copy of the theme to Dark Star, "Benson, Arizona," which is a terrific little song that, as it should, accounts for the effects of time dilation of a relationship between an astronaut and his Earth-bound love. Anyway, what old song have you recently dug up that made you happy? Or, perhaps, was better left un-reheard?

I'm seeing Paul McCartney in Vancouver next weekend (AND Bruce the following night - so I'm expecting at least one of them to appear at the other's concert), so I've been listening to some Beatles and Wings stuff. When listening to "Help!" yesterday, I ended up playing "I've Just Seen a Face" ten times in a row, because damn that's a great song. It's not a lesser-known song, but it just made me completely, deliriously happy. (Thus all the replays.)

  2. Having a little Oingo Boingo renaissance today, coincidentally. Still makes me smile.

  3. It's not an old song, really, (2006) but I've always loved Voxtrot's "Your Biggest Fan" and then a few years ago it became the song I listened to to help me get over a breakup (the lyrics are killer for that -- "I used to be your biggest fan but now you are slipping in my estimation" -- is just one of the great lines.) Anyhow, I then didn't hear it for a long time and it came up on shuffle the other day and now it's on a playlist I'm listening to all the time. It definitely makes me think of the guy, and it's not exactly a "happy" song, but it's a great song and the tempo and music are surprisingly joyful for a song about moving on.

  4. "I Can Tell," by Michael Penn. It came up on my Shuffle the other day, and I had to dig up my copy of Resigned.

"Let Love Speak Up Itself" and "Prettiest Eyes" by The Beautiful South. I found a line from the first on Pinterest, so I went looking for my CDs. I couldn't find the one with that song, but found the one with the second. LOVE those songs.

Earlier this summer, trolling through youtube videos, I came across some live Trio from the mid 80s. I still love Sunday You Need Love Monday Be Alone. Pulled out my old vinyl and ripped it all to mp3. I think I enjoy this stuff more than I did then. Ja Ja Ja
