PRESENTED, AS ALWAYS, BY A PARADE OF DUCKS: The thirty-nine winners of the 72nd Annual George S. Peabody Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence (in Media) have been announced by the University of Georgia. The diverse list includes Girls, Louie, Southland, Switched at Birth, Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, TAL's "What Happened at Dos Erres," SCOTUSblog, that NYT article about the avalanche which I never finihsed, ITV's coverage of the Jimmy Savile scandal, and ABC News' coverage both of Hurricane Sandy and Robin Roberts' battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

  1. The personal honor to Michaels is well deserved as a career capper (even if maybe not so much for the past year's activity). Personal Peabodys are quite rare.

The avalanche article is worth reading/finishing for those who haven't. A really cool mix of print journalism and multimedia - I'm hoping for more such long-form stories in the future (and if anyone has read other good ones, feel free to let me know!).

While I haven't come across any other multimedia ones, I recently discovered The Electric Typewriter, a compilation of great long-form stories and have been down the rabbit hole reading some great prose. http://tetw.tumblr.com/

  5. I can't recommend Dos Erres much more than saying "Go listen to it NOW." Fantastic piece of work by everyone involved at TAL.
