The Recording Industry Association of America said Tuesday that "Radioactive" joins Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," Justin Bieber's "Baby" and Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" and "Not Afraid" as a digital diamond success. Elton John's "Candle in the Wind/The Way You Look Tonight" is the only physical single to accomplish that feat.

THIS IS IT, THE APOCALYPSE, WHOA-OH: Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive," already the longest-running song in Billboard chart history, has now become the sixth single ever to hit Diamond status (~10 million sales, but they also incorporate streaming somehow). I'll hide the others below the fold; welcome to the new age:

The article says 7.7 million downloads + 366 million streams, so it seems like the equation is roughly 100 streams=1 download for this purpose. And I was surprised to see "Baby" and "Not Afraid" on the list.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised not to see any Black Eyed Peas on the list. Also, true confession: I saw Imagine Dragons in concert a few weeks ago, and they were fine.
ReplyDeleteRelated of interest, the list of Diamond Albums and Singles combined (10M+ sold in the US). https://www.riaa.com/goldandplatinum.php?content_selector=top-diamond-awards
ReplyDeleteMost recent album addition: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Greatest Hits--crossed 10M in April.
Most recently released album of the list: Adele, 21 (no surprise)
These amount of sales always astound me, but then I realize I'm thinking of the excellent I Fight Dragons.
