RUBEN STUDDARD, YOU'RE NEXT: Seriously, is the announcement that Justin Guarini
will be in the upcoming Broadway production of Women on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown (as the son of Patti LuPone and Brian Stokes Mitchell) going to sell a single additional ticket? In fact, while my interest was high (in addition to LuPone and Mitchell, cast includes Sherie Rene Scott and Laura Benanti, and a score by David Yazbek), if anything, this lowers it.
Hey, if it means someone running a Google search gets to read Nathan Rabin's Commentary Tracks of the Damned for the Justin and Kelly movie, I'm all for it.

Better still is the TWOP recap of the film, comprised of a list of 146 reasons why the film sucks (in chronological order, no less!). (Sadly, TWOP seems to be FUBAR right now, and I can't link beyond the first page of a cache.)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I don't follow Broadway that closely but I thought Patti was joining Fela.
ReplyDeletePatti LaBelle is joining Fela. Patti LuPone would not fit in over there.
ReplyDeleteRuben has already toured nationally with Ain't Misbehavin. (With Frenchie and Trenyce.) I did blog about it here. Is he just waiting for a Little Shop revival so he can voice Audrey II?
ReplyDeleteThe person on the radio said LuPone (twice!) because I thought, "wow" and "uh, really?" Thanks for the clarification.
ReplyDeleteIt's back up now.

The notion of Patti LuPone in Fela is giving me a giggle fit.
ReplyDeleteI had the same reaction when I heard it!!
