THIS EMMY IS NOW DIAMONDS! The Creative Arts Emmys handed out tonight included some complete non-surprises (Betty White and John Lithgow winning for guest acting were foregone conclusions), but also NPH's first (and second!) Emmys (as part of the producer team for the 2009 Tonys and as guest actor for his work on Glee), Anne Hathaway's first step toward a potential EGOT (for her voiceover work as Princess Penelope on The Simpsons), Jeff Probst continuing his streak for Reality Host, and yes, an Emmy win for The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Discuss whatever's worth discussing here--I expect we'll have something next Sunday for live discussion.
ETA: Hitfix has red carpet photos, including the good (Christina Hendricks, unsurprisingly), the bad (Miranda Cosgrove tying to be Miley), and the ugly (Alan Cumming's blue plaid ensemble).
I saw Hathaway won and my thoughts, in order, were "EGOT?" and "I wonder what ALOTT5MA thinks of this."
ReplyDeleteI like NPH, but Mike O'Malley should have won. But I did read that Neil acknowledged him in his acceptance.
ReplyDelete0-for-2 for notorious Emmy campaigner Kathy Griffin.
ReplyDeleteThe G is going to be the tough part of an EGOT for Hathaway. She allegedly has a pretty decent shot at an Oscar this year for "Love and Other Drugs," and, especially if she does a musical, a Tony is hers for the taking, but winning a Grammy will require her to either cut a pop album or a duet with someone.
ReplyDeleteVery happy that The Pacific got a well-deserved award for casting, since none of the excellent individual work was recognized.
ReplyDeleteUm...Wanda Sykes has much better legs than I expected.
ReplyDeleteI like the crazy plaid!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid that watched GUTS back in the day, I am amused how we're all talking about how Mike O'Malley deserves an acting Emmy.
Wow, Elizabeth Mitchell looked resplendent! I miss Lost.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't she win a Grammy for reading a book?
ReplyDeleteNot only what Adam C said, but have we decided whether singing on a Grammy-winning soundtrack counts? It's Zeta-Jones' claim to this prong of the EGOT.
ReplyDeleteDid we ever decide if singing on a Grammy-winning soundtrack qualified for EGOT purposes? That's the Zeta-Jones question.
ReplyDeleteMy view would be "no." That's like saying "this person performed in a Tony-winning Best Musical" and giving them a T credit. One has to be a named winner. Zach Braff can rightly claim a Grammy for producing/selecting the Garden State soundtrack. CZJ and Lea Michele cannot claim a Grammy for appearing on Grammy winning albums.
ReplyDeleteSo wouldn't that make reading your own works worthy of a 'G'?
ReplyDeleteI think if you've got a statue on your mantle, then yes. Otherwise, no.
ReplyDeleteI'd also happily buy an Anne Hathaway stand up comedy album.
ReplyDeleteI so like when Jane Lynch is allowed to look as pretty. So oftern her roles call for her to be severe/crazy/unattractive, but she's a beautiful woman and it's nice to see her get to show it off.
ReplyDeleteFor all that I didn't like much of the Julie/Julia movie, getting to see Jane Lynch looking lovely and playing a likeable character was one of the great pleasures of that movie.
I thought Miranda Cosgrove looked adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm presuming that all those minor awards for "Modern Family" means that it's a shoo-in for the Best Comedy.
ReplyDeleteBest Rap/Sung Collaboration?
ReplyDeleteHey, Eva Mendes could be up for that one next year for her song on "The Other Guys" soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteYup. Obama and Colbert are both credited with Grammys, based on reading their own works.
