NEW IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER: I do not want Dr. Cameron to be The Mother, and
last night's episode neither wants me to see more of her nor the show in general. As competent and enjoyable-if-not-overwhelming as last week's subway race was, this wasn't, and my incipient prudishness does not need to hear the phrase "small penis" repeated
that many times in the 8:00 hour. Seriously, if you're going to use the word that much,
do it right.
Yeah, this was kind of a blah episode, though I give them credit for exploring the idea of Ted having a female friend who we know cannot be the mother (absent some exceedingly crazed plot gymnastics which are, at best, implausible) and who he's not going to sleep with (at least for the moment). I'm wondering if her arc is what allows Ted to realize that he's kind of a colossal douche.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought last week's was pretty great, though would have been better had they shot it guerilla/TAR-style in NYC, as was originally planned/hoped for.
I stopped watching House before Morrison went blonde, so I spent the whole episode (and until now, frankly) thinking I was watcing Malin Akerman. Who, know that I think about it, has already BEEN on HIMYM. The Hollywood Blondes, they run together in my mind.
ReplyDeleteI think she is meant to be Mother. At the very least a major character going forward, and this episode doesn't really bode well for that. I didn't think it was horrible or anything, but I'm just not feeling all "yeah! I want to see a LOT more episodes with this character!" I kind of expected more from Morrison. Also it's basically the same character as Keri Russell's character on Running Wilde.
ReplyDeleteThe small penis thing didn't bother me at all. Maybe women really do have less issues than men about talking about small penises! (Though after a while it did finally occur to me, "wow, this is on at 8:00"). I'd like to see them try to say vagina that many times at 8:00.
It's confirmed that she's got a very long arc going forward, but based on information we know (Ted meets mother for the first time at the wedding where he's best man, Mother is Rachel Bilson's roommate, among others), requires contortionist-level plot gymnastics to make it work.
ReplyDeleteI think we're looking at some serious plot gymnastics to get to that wedding regardless.
ReplyDeletePlot Contortion Possibility #1 - Barney marries Rachel Bilson's character. Plot Contortion Possibility #2 - Robin marries Rachel Bilson's character. Why else would the mother be at the wedding (which I assume is Barney's because Marshall's already married, Ted is best man, and Barney, if a groomsman and not the groom, would be out drinking in the courtyard)?
ReplyDeleteI am going to adopt "____ puts the douche in fiduciary" from this episode.
ReplyDeleteShe's just another red herring, but they seem to want to drag her out all season. Like we care.
ReplyDeleteI disliked the character immediately and do not look forward to her many returns. Great, you out-dicked Ted? Fabulous.
I also think Marshall's penis-angst on behalf of Max was.... way too much. The rest of it was funny, but dude, YOUR dick is fine, WHY are you freaking so much?
Jennifer Morrison has the same quality that Katherine Hiegl has - they are unlikeable and therefore unwatchable.
ReplyDeleteI'm returning to one of my long-time theories on this. Sure, she brings him drinks, but has Ted really ever MET Wendy the waitress?
