NOT UNLIKE GAZELLES CHASING LIONS: Jeff Sullivan, the funniest baseball writer presently writing about baseball, gives the finger to the National League, to people who trot out the same silly rationalizations for why the National League is supposedly better, and, for good measure, to Mariners designated "hitters."

Not quite as funny as Baseball Players and their Representative Volcanoes, but it demands less working knowledge of both baseball and volcanoes.

Being a Mariners fan means you will be subjected to an above average amount of pain and suffering, but Jeff Sullivan and Dave Cameron certainly make it more fun and interesting as well.  Go M's!

Good comedy, like the NL, is pain & suffering plus time.

OK, but I miss the USSM heyday.  DMZ always was a better writer (not analyst, writer) than Cameron, and there was a time when Cameron could spend time focusing on the Mariners instead of being at-large at Fangraphs.  Now the site is basically Jay Yencich's prospect reports plus game threads.  I half-wish they would just shut it down and put it out of its misery and let Yencich post over at LookoutLanding.

  4. Agreed.  DMZ is a big loss, but I still find USSM worthwhile when Dave does post something other than a game thread...and then politely defends his position in the comments. Ha!

This post has inspired me to read up on this "American" League.  Did you know they have twelve teams *other* than the Yankees and Red Sox?  I could have sworn there were maybe four others, tops.
