LIKELY THE ONLY HALL OF FAME IN EXISTENCE TO HAVE JOHNNY SACK AMONG ITS BOARD MEMBERS: In terms of Truly Meaningless Halls of Fame To Which I Devote Excessive Coverage, right behind the one in Cleveland is the newer one next door to here -- the New Jersey Hall of Fame, whose list of nominees for the Class of 2012 includes Turnpike stalwarts Richard Stockton and Molly Pitcher, returning nominees like Milton Friedman (if he's supposed to be inducted, won't the market arrange it?) and Grover Cleveland (recipient of non-consecutive nominations), and new nominees like Alexander Calder, Dionne Warwick (who already knows if she's in) and Aaron Burr, whose bio may be missing a few details:
Aaron Burr Newark (1756-1836) After attending Princeton University, he served in the army during the Revolutionary War, was a successful attorney and later became vice president during Thomas Jefferson’s presidential term.
Recent inductees include William Brennan, John Basilone, Woodrow Wilson and Judy Blume. Youse can vote right here.

  1. Did Michael Douglas really grow up in NJ?  I would have assumed he lived in LA considering his father was a movie star.

Rumor has it, the small town (2 square miles) in New Jersey that I grew up in was the hometown of Susan Sarandon, Robert Hedges from Welcome Back Kotter, and David Copperfield.

I voted for Molly Pitcher, Samuel Newhouse, Christopher Reeve, Monte Irvin, and Charles Addams.

Went with Waksman (SCIENCE!), Volker, Alda, Vitale and Nast.

Given that the vote is the fan winner from each category and two selected by the board, I say we adopt some dark horses. Mine are Waksman and Nast. People take antibiotics for granted, but is has been a MAJOR factor in extending average life expectancy during the last century.

Did they ever open that Museum of Science & Trucking @ The Esplanade?

Always one of favorite Sopranos jokes.

  4. Is there anything more New Jersey than Aaron Burr's coup plot?

I was going to go with Stanton, but I'll switch to Waksman.  Sounds good.  But Dick Vitale?  UGH.

Full ballot: Waksman, Still, Vaughn, Irvin, Nast

My high school band was the University of Detroit pep band during the late 70's / early 80's. In 1977/78 or so, Dick Vitale came to our gym to scout an opposing player. He asked us to be the pep band at Calihan Hall. I got to go to a lot of games for free. So that vote is due to loyalty/thankfulness, not due to the current incarnation of DICKIE V., BABY!!!.
