THEY DO OVERLOOK THAT HE WAS THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS:We speculated about EW's Entertainer of the Year a couple of weeks ago and turns out we were all wrong.  For reinventing his career (as embodied by his direction of and performance in Argo), your Entertainer of the Year?  Ben Affleck.

ETA:  The full list includes a number of folks we speculated about--Channing Tatum, Joss Whedon, Jennifer Lawrence, Seth MacFarlane--a few we should have expected--the cast of Homeland, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt--and an interesting surprise choice in Kerry Washington.

  1. School girl level happy to see this. Argo was great, and I've been a fan of his since the beginning. I'm sure it won't be the most popular choice, but I for one agree whole heartedly.

This is okay with me, though I still would have preferred the (commercially impossible) choice of "nobody." Or perhaps, for the sake of accuracy, Carly Rae Jepsen.

Wow. I didn't see that one coming. Did anybody call this one in the last thread?

  4. White normativity strikes again! White, white, white, white, white, a whole bunch of white, white, white, and... Kerry Washington.

Rihanna seems like an obvious exclusion; no reason not to include Denzel Washington, given Flight.

  6. Rihanna is complicated because honoring her could be seen as in part an endorsement of the Rihanna/Brown relationship, which was a big part of why she was in the news this year, and I don't think EW wants to touch that with a 10 foot pole (also, 3 top ten singles this year, one of which was her featured on a Drake track and the other of which is just climbing the chart now, isn't a huge number).

I'm no fan, but Tyler Perry? 3 movies where he was the lead (2 of which he wrote and directed as well), a bunch of new plays, and his TV empire?
