BUT MARGE, I WAS A POLITICAL PRISONER! Was "Itchy & Scratchy Land," as the AV Club's Kyle Ryan (and presumably all boys named "Bort") claims, among the top three Simpsons episodes of all time?
[Did not know: the episode was the writers' response to Fox efforts to get them to cut out the Itchy & Scratchy stuff, given indecency concerns.]
Not being a Simpsons watcher, I can't say. But this might be a good place to mention that the theater company I work for (Playwrights Horizons in NYC) will be producing "Mr. Burns" this fall, a new play by Anne Washburn that has heavy influence from The Simpsons, including a very large section of the play in which the characters try to remember the "Cape Feare" episode of The Simpsons practically line for line. And the final act includes a post-apocalyptic, very dark "musical" performed by actors in Simpsons costumes. It's fascinating.
