IF I WRING LITTLE NECKS SURELY I WILL GET AN ACQUITTAL: From
Bad Teacher to Bad Orphanage:
Cameron Diaz to portray Miss Hannigan in the Quvenzhané Wallis Annie remake, co-starring
Jamie Foxx as "Benjamin Stacks". Still waiting on casting for The Lovely Boylan Sisters.
It's like they're working to make me even less interested in an Annie remake. Granted, I simply don't like the show to start with, but there's some off-putting casting.
ReplyDeleteIt's also worth taking a moment to note just how smartly the current revival has cast Miss Hannigan. Yes, Jane Lynch (who's in the role now) is stunt casting, but at least somewhat interesting stunt casting, and Katie Finneran (who originated) and Faith Prince (who's taking over when Lynch leaves in a few weeks) aren't names, but are interesting, well-regarded Broadway performers with different takes on Miss Hannigan than we've seen before.
ReplyDeleteIs there any movie, play, or television show in which "Franklin Delano Roosevelt" is a more peripheral and minor role than it is in Annie?
ReplyDeleteFDR in Assassins? Does he appear at all or is it just mentioned in "How I Saved Roosevelt"?
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love, Katie Finneran, but having seen her perform the role live, and Lynch perform on the Tonys, Lynch is actually better in the role than Finneran.
ReplyDeleteFaith Prince gets a job! Woo! There is just not a lot for middle-aged female Bway actresses out there. Not. A. Lot.
ReplyDeleteYeesh. I just think this is a terrible idea. I cannot picture her getting the part right (as compared to Carol Burnett's portrayal, which I LOVE) in any way. I feel like she'll just shriek and stamp her feet, but maybe not. Maybe she's been waiting her whole life for this opportunity. I'd be curious to see Faith Prince's version, too. I'd bet she'd do a really good job. Gah. Why can't it be her? I also stand by my rec of Amy Poehler. They'd have to age her up, but I think she'd have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't appear at all in Assassins; he's just mentioned.
