I reblogged this on Tumblr with the comment "Of course Hooters was founded in Florida. Of course."
Caterpillar for Illinois? Over Sears. Eh, maybe.
In what way was Saks founded in Alabama?
McDonalds? John Deere?
McDonalds was founded in California.
A little weird that Bank of America is attributed to North Carolina. Bank of America (nee Bank of Italy) was a very SF institution until the merger with NationsBank.
And what's going on in Delaware and Rhode Island and Providence Plantations? I just can't read it. (DuPoint?)
...NationsBank, formerly known as NCNB (North Carolina National Bank).
For a time in the 1990s-2000s, Saks Inc., the parent of Saks Fifth Avenue, was headquartered in Birmingham, but the dept. store chain wasn't founded here. There also was an earlier store named Saks founded in Birmingham, but it went away in the 1930s and had no connection to the New York Saks.
After seeing that map, I had to do a Google search to realize McDonald's was founded in California and not Illinois. I still think you could make a case that McDonald's should be representing California instead of Apple.
I think you could make the case that DIsney trumps both of them.
Sara Lee? Kraft? (No I haven't done the searches to see if they were founded in IL, but Caterpillar seems wrong.)
Sara Lee went out of business last year, so I assume that eliminates them.
I'm just happy NH isn't Segway, though I'm surprised it's not EMS. Is that an only here thing?
I think Apple trumps both but just barely? Disney/Apple is a toss-up to me.
Yes, DuPont is the company for the Fictional State of Delaware.Rhode Island is Hasbro. No word on the Providence Plantations, though. Maybe Al Forno? It's just too small to see.
Sears doesn't even have their own friggin' tower anymore.
In size, sure, but in being best known?
Besides the Sears Tower, which I'm looking at from my office window, they have their own small town in Hoffman Estates still.
As my mother says whenever I refer to it, "you mean Willis Tower."
Hasbro, excellent. Much better to be represented by the giant Mr. Potato Head than the giant New England Pest Control highway bug.
GOOD GOD, that thing is terrifying.
Ask your when you started talking 'bout London, 'cause we ain't renaming Sears Tower after some limies.
According to the website, his name is Nibbles Woodaway. Sigh.
Verizon over IBM for New York? Really? I don't think so.
See, I'd have gone with Kodak. Assuming we're going with it still existing.
Listen, Space Shuttles come and go, but there will always be those who want to leer at large-breasted chicks in tight t shirts while eating wings. That is a business with Staying Power. (Yes, I usually feel some need to defend my home state. No, it never really goes well. I left for more than one reason.)
