THEN KILL ME NOW. GO ON NOW, GO INTO THE HAM, AND TAKE THE CARVING KNIFE AND STAB ME, HERE, HERE, NOW, PLEASE! IT WOULD HURT ME LESS THAN WHAT YOU JUST SAID: The members of the Writers Guild of America have voted, creating their list of
the 101 best-written tv series of all time.
101? Proof, as always, that even good writers need editors.
ReplyDeleteIn stark contrast to any similar list of books, I've seen most episodes of more than a third of the series listed.
ReplyDeleteThe only one I'd add off the top of my head is maybe In Treatment.
Were there no good TV shows before I was born?? I feel like "all time" equals "the past 40 (mumble mumble) years." I'm proud to say I've seen A LOT of the shows on this list.
ReplyDeleteThey have the original Star Trek at #33? I didn't realize that scenery-chewing and social-justice bludgeoning constituted good writing.
ReplyDeleteBreaking Bad at 13??? [Seriously, I can't see any way in hell that The Sopranos, which I love and acknowledge is a masterpiece, is better-written than either The Wire OR Breaking Bad.]
ReplyDeleteNope. And it's causal. YOU caused the good-television renaissance. And I thank you for it.
ReplyDeleteTelevision has thankfully gotten more nuanced since that Teri Garr moment.
ReplyDeleteYeah, well, I like to think I bring the party!
