FROM THE ALOTT5MA EXTREME SANDWICH DESK:  This week, Dunkin Donuts will be rolling out a new egg-and-meat breakfast sandwich employing a sliced glazed donut as the bun.  According to DD’s Executive Chef and Vice President of Global Product Innovation, Stan Frankenthaler, "We want to help guests discover their love of combining sweet and savory, and I think the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich is a great way to do that. If this trend continues, we’d love to explore more options to offer additional menu items with these flavor combinations."

As usual, Wait Wait is at the forefront on disgusting sandwich reportage:

I'm surprised that McDonald's had a multi-year lead on DD in developing strategic sweet-savory hybrid breakfast sandwiches. I love a McGriddle once every couple of years, and I look forward to trying a Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich. Or just buying a fresh doughnut, cooking up some appropriately artisinal and/or organic bacon and eggs* and combining them into a healthy brunch.

*Note: only some bacon and eggs, not ALL the bacon and eggs.

When I was a student at the University of Virginia, the local diner had a concoction called the "Grillswith" that was the perfect way to end a night of drinking: two grilled glazed donuts, with a scoop of ice cream in between. The diner has since gone out of business, so I think the concept is up for grabs if Dunkin is interested.
