Look, yes, Walt needs to go down. But I sure want Skyler to get herself a lawyer here. "Don't start putting up roadblocks to me helping you." How creepy is that?
What makes the series great is the moral ambiguity of everyone. Hank had no trouble perceiving Skylar as the linchpin to his case, even if it meant stomping on due process. It became clear his DEA family is more important than his real family.
ReplyDeleteI loved last night's episode, so many parts moving forward, so may ways it can go.
I have long feared for Holly's life, and last night's scrum only heightened that worry. I feel like we, and Skyler, are going to regret that Holly didn't leave with Hank and Marie.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I like Skyler a lot, but why oh why didn't she try to talk with Walt before meeting with Hank?
Skylar is obviously not as bad as Walt, but do people really see her as innocent and not deserving some comeuppence? She cheated on Walt fairly early on (before she knew very much about what he was doing), she cheated Bogdad (sp?) out of his carwash, she was generally willing to cook the books at Beneke's, and sent henchmen to try and fix the IRS situation. I don't see Walt as true cause of these transgressions.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not innocent. All of your examples are mostly unrelated to the Heisenberg empire, but her crimes in that regard may well be even worse. I think Skyler gets a bad rap from people who just see her as a shrew who's messing with Walt's fun, but that's not to say she's all good.
ReplyDeleteI think Skylar "broke bad" in Sunday's episode. She could have made a deal, gotten immunity and helped to put Walt away. Since she was wishing for his death just a few weeks/episodes ago, this doesn't seem far from her own wishes. Maybe she changed her mind when he got out of the business, I don't know. But she chose to protect herself, her family (somewhat), and the money. I've always been sympathetic to Skylar, but this was her crossing a line for me.
ReplyDeleteBut if she wants to cut a deal, it seems to me that getting a lawyer before she talks is essential. If she just started talking in the diner, she'd likely be doing serious time, even if Hank didn't intend that otucome. I'm not sure she's foreclosed the deal-making option entirely. She could still be playing her own game here.
ReplyDeleteHank has a big problem explaining how his brother-in-law ran a huge meth lab without detection. His real reason for doing what he did was not family, but a way to prove to himself that he is a genius. Could have been at a college, in front of hundreds of applauding peers. Hank taunted Walt about his manhood and he saw that first meth bust with Hank, and the money. So Hank had a hand in corrupting Walt. IMO.
