DO THE BART, MAN: Welcome to
the marathon. HitFix has
Day 1 recommendations; Joe Reid has
a long-term planning guide (as does
Vulture), and
Alyssa Rosenberg is watching for the first time: "I have been struck by many things about the show’s first season, from its smart, funny feminism to its deft introduction of a huge cast of characters. But most of all, I have been touched by how beautifully The Simpsons captures the many ways to be a child with great humanity and wit."
So, who else went through the next couple of says and DVRd certain episodes? I know I had to get things like Marge Bowling, Homer at the Bat, the Bart's War episode, Bart goes to France and the like.
ReplyDeleteMe, I did. As I noted on Twitter, I'm gonna need a bigger TiVo. I'd like to show the older episodes to my kids (but I'm doing it just as much for me.)
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be really tough when we start hitting the 7th & 8th season run with things like You Only Move Twice, Bart After Dark and the Fighting Hellfish (which I can't be alone in thinking is a top-five episode, right?)
ReplyDeleteFighting Hellfish? Really? Yes, you're alone on that.
ReplyDeleteProbably, but I think it's a standout episode for humor, animation (that boat chase is fantastic), Grandpa Simpson jokes and a stand-alone joke involving Burns accidentally waking Lisa up that slays me.
ReplyDeleteSince I already own all first 8 seasons on DVD, I don't see the need to DVR anything. But if you are going to watch selectively or DVR anything (for while you sleep, or work, or eat or whatever) for today, I'd watch/record: 2pm: Life on the Fast Lane, 3pm: The Crepes of Wrath, 4:30pm Bart Gets an F, 6-7:30, 2 Cars in Every Garage & Three Eyes on Every Fish, Dancin' Homer, Dead Putting Society, 8:30 Itchy and Scratchy and Marge; 9:30 One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish, 1:30am Friday morning: Lisa's Substitute, 2:30am: 3 Men and a Comic Book.
ReplyDeleteAlone, definitely alone.
ReplyDeleteCrepes of Wrath is definitely one I jumped on.
ReplyDeleteThough it's the only reason I toss around the concept of a tontine on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteAlso, wee hours of Monday morning features the first (presumably) uncut airing of "City of New York v. Homer Simpson" in many years.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I actually quite like it, but it's certainly not a top 5 episode overall. Heck, it might not even be a top 5 episode in its season! Looking at the episode list, I'd rate at least Bart Sells His Soul, 22 Short Films, Homerpalooza, THOHVI, and maybe Lisa the Vegetarian higher.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to waste much of the next few days just watching FXX, aren't I?
Look, once the app fully launches, 90% of Twitter is going to become Simpsons GIFs and video clips, right?
ReplyDeleteOooooooooh. Let me get my crab juice ready.
