THE GOLDEN HORATIO: Best Week Ever compiles the top ten SNL cast-member-breaking-character-and-cracking-up moments in show history. Cue sad trombone.

added: The BWE commenters remind me of my favorite one -- even more so than Debbie Downer -- Phil Hartman as Frankenstein shouting Fire, BAD! while completely cracking up at Kevin Nealon (Tarzan) and Jon Lovitz (Tonto). Transcript here; can't find the video.

I have no idea what other people thought, but I loved the Stefon sketch last weekend. It's so rare for Hader to either play an original character or to crack up, and I think he did both in a pretty adorable way, plus it made me laugh.

The Debbie Downer crack up definitely had me busting a gut when it aired, but it's faded a bit with time for me. "Extremely Stupid," though, is now and forever. Genius.

Damn fine choices for #1 and #2 (Man, I love Applegate hiding behind her hair in an attempt not to completely lose it, and kudos to Rachel Dratch and Lindsey Lohan for almost making it through unscathed).

  3. They shouldn't have tried to replicate it ... it's not funny when they're not trying to restrain themselves.

The "Fire Bad!" does remind me of one of the times they sang a christmas carol as Tarzan, Frankenstein and Tonto and for some reason, never referred to, Frankenstein's clothes keep smoking throughout the song.  Wonderful bit of weirdness.

One more good one, for Seth Meyer's "elfish giggle": Always Be Cobbling.

Never miss a chance to watch the Matt Foley sketch.
"Well, you'll have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river, when you're LIVING... uh..."

Can't find the video, but my favorite was the "Fernando's Hideaway" with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Billy Crystal cracked several clearly ad-libbed jokes, and the wrestlers just couldn't take it.

But Hader does crack up from time to time, especially when Kenan Thompson's convict characters yells at teenagers to scare them straight. They tend to put Andy Samberg downstage because he can keep it together, but if you watch Hader upstage, he's barely holding it together.

Thanks for the link, by the way, Now I know the name for one of my favorite things about live comedy sketches.
