WE KNOW SHE OWNS A YELLOW UMBRELLA AND A LITTLE METAL BUS: It's widely rumored that we're going to finally meet the other title character of
How I Met Your Mother this season, and it's
now confirmed that Ted will have a new love interest for at least 13 episodes this season--with Jennifer Morrison (late of
House), Minka Kelly (late of
FNL, and, more recently, of
dog-related freakout fame), and Jacinda Barrett (yes, the actress/model from
Real World: London, who was actually quite good in
The Last Kiss), all in contention. Any of these seem
Mother material?
Does Ted really lose in any of those situations?
ReplyDeleteI'd say that the kids look more like Jennifer Morrison than Kelly or Barrett, and I certainly like her more than the other two actresses. Besides, I don't want to see Mrs. Derek Jeter play the closer in another romance story (see: (500) Days Of Summer).
Minka Kelly has done a weird age-related loop in my head. I initially thought she, along with Taylor Kitsch and Scott Porter, looked way too old to play high-schoolers on FNL. And now I associate her so much with her character, my initial reaction to this was, "TED! Far too young!"
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see Morrison do comedy, since most of her comedy on House was on the DVD extra gag reels. I doubt Minka Kelly can do comedy at all, but she's better than the other two (themselves no slouches) at just standing there and looking pretty. Lacking any personality whatsoever is a huge plus when evaluating the credibility of a person's romantic entanglement with Mosby.
ReplyDeleteShe looks quite mature at the end of 500 Days of Summer, to the point that I made no connection between her part and her part on FNL. (Then again, much as I loved the movie I might have been wordplay at the pun too much.)
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with Goghaway - Minka now seems forever 18 to me. Had the same feeling seeing Leighton Meester in the opening of Going the Distance (which I loved, anyone else?).
ReplyDeleteHere's my question - won't we know right away whether or not she's actually the mother based on if she's Rachel Bilson's roommate?
I liked Going The Distance quite a bit, though mostly because of the supporting cast. I found the two leads kind of insufferable.
ReplyDeleteMorrison might have had the funniest non-Hugh-Laurie delivery in House a couple of seasons ago when House was attempting to determine which of his team members was dating the new comely nurse, and she deadpan responded "I'm hitting that, and it's totally hot."
ReplyDeleteLOVED Charlie Day. I actually didn't mind Justin Long (and I thought I was going to hate him) and I find Drew B charming, though I know she's not for all tastes. I just loved that it was a movie where late 20s/early 30s characters talked about the things my late 20s/early 30s friends talk about - an R-rated How I Met Your Mother, kind of.
ReplyDeleteYou know who I would love for this? Keri Russell. She can do funny, which I'm not sure Jennifer Morrison can carry off. If they decide to go in a totally dramatic direction, she can also do whispered torture, as seen in Felicity. Plus she's cute as a button. And I loved Waitress.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the problem- I haven't seen her in anything else, including 500 Days (which I've been meaning to see for awhile). To be honest, I'm kind of neutral on all three of the actresses. They're all beautiful, and seem like they'd be game for whatever the show will probably throw at them. But I am pumped about the love interest storyline in general, especially based Alan's interview with the creators. They not only seemed to know what was the main problem with the last season, but sounded more energized and excited about moving the show forward.

If the writing's as good as I hope it will be, I'm certain that whoever they choose as the main love interest will pick up on that momentum. </span>
ReplyDeleteI saw this with some girlfriends over Labor Day weekend, and enjoyed it too! We all really liked the supporting cast- Kristen Schaal is in it for a brief, hilarious scene, and so is Jim Gaffigan. And he makes Boston Market jokes! But it was really just refreshing to be watching a rom-com where the problem was so relatable (long-distance due to job/school situations) and the obstacles were understandable (plane tickets are expensive). No one was trying to ruin their sister's wedding by stealing the groom, or pretending to be their hot roommate, or whatever. And like bella said, they talked about dating and sex frankly without using stupid catchphrases or being cutesy.
ReplyDeleteOkay, now that I've checked IMDb, I remember Jacinda Barrett from Bridget Jones:Edge of Reason. I liked her in that. I haven't been a regular viewer of HIMYM, but I may tune in this season if she or Morrison land the role. I miss Morrison on House.
ReplyDeleteHow many seasons in a row has it been rumored that we're going to meet the mother this season?
ReplyDeleteI'm not kicking that football anymore, Lucy.
