WHERE DO ALL THE HIPPIES MEET?  The present and former Philadelphians in the house will want to read the oral history of South Street in this week's City Paper, and if you want to know even more about the unbuilt Crosstown Expressway in all its horrific possibilities, click here.

  1. The story of the Crosstown Expressway and how community opposition defeated it makes up a significant portion of my recently completed doctoral dissertation, "Let the People Have a Victory":  The Politics of Transportation in Philadelphia, 1946-1984.  I'm currently in talks with a university press about turning it into a book, and for those of you who may be interested, will report back through Adam if/when that happens.
