Flair's the little boy who never grew up. He acts out in public, he's naive about women, naive about finances, and doesn't realize that his actions have consequences. People look at him at 61 and think he's Mickey Rourke, but I think it's even sadder than that.
The comparable is there, but you're right, he's still living the Ric Flair lifestyle without any thought towards the consequences. Even his explination to teh lawyers about how he'll make it right, just not right now, shows that he still thinks he's got some magic left that will see him through.
That last line really sums it up. "He could never separate Ric Flair from Richard Fliehr"
I want to like Grantland, I really do. But the stories are so long (and the font/style of them adds to their...denseness) so as to be unapproachable.
