IMMA LET YOU FINISH:Via Linda Holmes, Salon explains the
"Kanye Moment" during last night's Best Documentary Short presentation--it's the product of a feud between the female producer and the producer/director and involves accusations of being tripped by a cane.
I'm just gonna keep saying this: Kanye West interrupted the award speech of a winner to advocate on the behalf of a third party, thereby stealing the spotlight. Elinor Burkett was a credited producer on the Documentary Short. Her name was on the screen and Carey Mulligan was standing there with an Oscar *for her*. That it ended up being a mess, a fiasco and an embarrassment is one thing, but Burkett was merely trying to get her little piece of a spotlight which, by virtue of the trophy and her name on the screen, was hers as well, at least under the technical regulations of the Academy.

Can we call it a "reverse Kanye" then?
ReplyDeleteQuery: The director stated that he understood that the Oscars "publicist" had identified one person to speak---him. Does anyone know if there is an official person named to speak at the Oscars for a given award where there are multiple recipients?
ReplyDeleteApparently, the Academy only allows one person to speak if there are multiple winners in a single category. Even if they were besties, only one of them would have been permitted to speak. So with the fight between them, it makes sense that this happened - no agreement on who would speak.
ReplyDeleteHm hm.. that's quiet interessting but frankly i have a hard time determining it... wonder what others have to say..
