UNTIL MAY, WE'RE ALLOWED TO DO RERUNS: We last asked this question in March 2005 upon the passing of Johnnie L. Cochran, but why not try again: who is now America's most famous practicing attorney?

    Denny Kane.

    ....Oh, wait.

  2. There's no one with a ton of general public recognition, but David Boies and Ted Olson probably at least belong on the contenders list, and if you're looking in traditional Biglaw, John Quinn may be an option.

Hey, at least we're doing reruns of the programming that's supposed to be going on here rather than pulling scheduled programming I want to rewatch for reruns of The Mentalist.  (CBS clearly wants something else Tuesdays at 10 since Good Wife loses much of its NCIS leadins.)

Since I've been watching a lot of ESPN lately, how about DeMaurice Smith?

Surely it's Dershowitz unless he's retired.

  6. I don't follow law, which makes me ideal to answer this. Sadly, the first name that popped into my head was Gloria Allred. And then I wanted to hit myself.

I think that's probably true.  From CNN commenter to Tiger Woods' girlfriends, she is ubiquitous.  And her daughter is following close behind.

Gloria Allred, thanks to Sue Sylvester.

  10. I'll toss another vote Ted Olson's way.  Fun fact: he has his own wine label, "Theodore Olson Reserve," made by cult Napa producer Harlan Estate.

  11. Barry Scheck.  I don't know lawyers, and he's the first one who came to mind.

  12. I think lawyers are out of this conversation.  I think non-lawyers pay attention to a different group.

  13. I came here to say attorney/extortionist Gloria Allred as well.

It's a tie between Franklin and Bash.

She also jumped to mind.  I think that in terms of pop culture, she is far more recognizable than David Boies, Ted Olson, etc.

Guess who I just saw a commercial for.  I'll give you a clue, his name rhymes with Donnie Cochran.

I was going to say Elizabeth Warren, but I'm a bankruptcy judge so my perspective is even more messed up than the lawyers.  And I guess she's not really a "practicing lawyer."

  19. Lindsay Lohan's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley is the first one that comes to mind for me. Actually, I think she's just going by Shawn Holley these days. (And just the fact that I as a non-lawyer know a detail like that must count for something. It's all TMZ!)

Or maybe Gloria Allred as suggested above.

I am not a lawyer, and my first thought was Gloria Allred.

Yeah its Gloria Allred for the win I think, plus she's about to bust Roger McDowell for assault in San Francsico~
