I thought Texas had finally gotten around to adopting "Don't Mess With Texas" (originally an anti-littering tagline) officially. If they had, would be much higher. And Washington's slogan sounds like an ad tagline for the Wawa.
I want to see a ranking of state mottos, after learning on my recent trip that Michigan's motto is Latin for "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you."
Ha, I can still hear Tom Kean, and the song. Did you see these very cool designer's interpretations of the state's mottos? http://statemottosproject.com/gallery/
I saw that the other day and laughed out loud when I got to DC.
ReplyDeleteDC should be #1, the awesomeness of potatoes notwithstanding.

ReplyDeleteInteresting how many of the mottos reference God. Bet that wouldn't happen if they were creating mottos today!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Minnesota's motto as #1, because it's the only one in French.
(Does my vote count if I'm not American? Because I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I'm Canadian)
ReplyDeleteNew Hampshire -- it's what's new!
ReplyDeleteConnecticut -- the middle C is silent!
