WE CAN ONLY ASSUME NPH AS MARIUS IS THE NEXT TO BE ANNOUNCED: Allegedly, Anne Hathaway is in talks to play Fantine in a movie version of Les Mis as her next role, which will give her the chance to do "I Dreamed A Dream." The article also suggests that Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter are close to signing to play the Thenardiers, with Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe already attached as Valjean and Javert, respectively. I'm still not sure that it works transitioned from stage to film, but the cast is certainly shaping up nicely.

  1. I actually would prefer NPH as Enrojlas. He does wonderfully in featured smaller roles, and he is a bit old now for Marius. This does not mean however, that TPTB should take this as leave to cast a Jonas brother again.

Is this where I complain that the excellent 1995 film is still not available on DVD?  Wonderful piece of work as a movie kind of about Les Miserables and even more so about the aftermath of the Vichy in post-WWII France.  I could watch it again right now, no problem.

  3. That's a pretty damn perfect pair of Thenardiers -- two of my favorite over-actors.

  4. My phone ate my comment I believe so if this is a repost, apologies.

I would prefer to see NPH as Enrojlas. He does wonderfully in featured parts, and I think depending on the Cosette and Eponine (Lea Michelle I imagine) casting, NPH is too old for Marius. That does not mean filmmakers should feel free to cast a Jonas brother again. Shudder to think.

Jesus F. Christ, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Hugh Jackman, and Russell Crowe?  That's a lot of scenery chewing right there.  Are there parts in this movie for Al Pacino and Nathan Lane too?  I don't know anything about this musical at all, but I imagine that it's going to be about 80% drawn-out death scene and 10% Russell Crowe looking like he is on his second hour of hold with DirecTV customer service.  Does that leave enough time for a confusingly chaste Anne Hathaway nude scene?

When did Jesus change his middle initial from H to F?

And I repeat, if Lea Michele is cast as Eponine, I am not responsible for my actions.

It's not that I'm trying to swear less, per se -- it's just that I'm trying to make sure that when I offend people it actually is important to me.  So F instead of fucking in the middle of that name seemed the right call.

Just chiming in to request a role, any role, for Hugh Laurie. Oh and one for Emma Thompson. That is all.

    Hugh Laurie for Javert!

  11. I think he'd be great.... Javert to me has an intellectual aspect, he is not driven by aggression/brute force so much (which I associate more with Crowe). Laurie's Javert would, I imagine, project volumes with a mere look or a gesture; Crowe's Javert would not be able to bring that to the role. I want to feel him act more than see him act. does that make sense?

  12. Agreed but have we already seen her best work in the slatternly innkeeper genre (see Lovett, Mrs.)..?
