AND NEXT, WE'RE GOING DIRECTLY TO REGIONAL SECTIONALS: In case you hadn't heard, in response to buzzy test screenings (and a comedy-light competition in theatres), Paramount is releasing a cappella comedy
Pitch Perfect this weekend in a platform release, and unsurprisingly, there's been some discussion of doing ALOTT5MA group screenings, at least in NYC, with Sunday afternoon/early evening being the likely time--sadly, it's only showing three places--Times Square, Lincoln Square, and in the East Village. Take to the comments to organize, folks.
Sunday at 5pm at Lincoln Square, 6pm in the village, or 7pm Times Square? I'm afraid I won't be back from the Half Marathon in time if we do any of the earlier showings, in which case, you'll miss my screaming when my friend (and Exec Director of Varsity Vocals) Amanda is on screen. (Maybe that would be better for all of you.)
ReplyDeleteI'd so be in for this. I'd prefer the earlier showings in the Village or Lincoln Square, but will try to make it work whatever the group decides.
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell y'all how jealous I am that you get to see it this week. I've been a little obsessed with this clip

Count me in! I've wanted to meet some NYC thing-throwers. Tell me where/when and I am there!
ReplyDeleteAlso, a ticket promo for those of you who might have a group of four or more: http://www.fandango.com/promo/pitchperfect
ReplyDeleteLA people, anyone interested in going on Sunday?
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to make it in from Jersey on Sunday, but I'll probably go after work on Friday night.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good! You guys will love it! I saw an advance screening a few weeks ago, and I need to make time this weekend to see it again with a friend.
ReplyDeleteWe've temporarily lost the old threads due to comment changeover, but it seemed like 5 PM at Lincoln Square worked well for most people, and that place has thus plus of being a nice theatre, non-swarmed with tourists, and having a lobby to meet up. That work for folks?
ReplyDeleteWorks for me!
ReplyDeleteI may be otherwise occupied playing real music (the kind with instruments) at that time, but if not, I will be in for that.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, folks. It's not a brilliant Oscar movie, but it's a good time. (I think the reviews' comparisons of it it Bring It On are inapt - it's sort of Bring It On but from Eliza Dushku's POV instead of Kirsten Dunst's. I think it's more a mashup of Sister Act 1 and 2.)
ReplyDeleteMy college a cappella group once did a skit about parents being horrified at finding their vocalist children with instrument porn.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to be there too - see you all then!
ReplyDeleteI am a definite maybe. I've been battling a nasty head cold the last couple days, so we'll see what Sunday brings.
ReplyDeleteMy tentative plan is to get there a bit before 4:30 and to gather in the lobby--despite the big per screen, I'm not hugely worried about a sell-out, and if there is one, we can easily hop down to the Empire. Looking forward to seeing folks then.
ReplyDeleteI think I have to bow out - I have a cold too, and seem to be sneezing everywhere. I hope everyone has fun! - Leah
