BANK ERROR IN YOUR FAVOR:  Hasbro has signed a deal to develop three more film adaptations of its properties, including Monopoly and, yes, Hungry Hungry Hippos.

[Added: the Triple-H film will be animated for children, and not the live-action epic for which we had been hoping.]

Worth noting: the notorious Jon Lovitz/Damon Wayans "Mr. Monopoly" SNL sketch is online, and it is funnier and less weird than its reputation would suggest.

  1. Rats. I was really hoping they'd let Wachowski Starship get hold of the hippos.

  2. I can get how Battleship and Monopoly can spin stories, but I'm having trouble wringing more than about a minute of story out of Hungry Hungry Hippos. They're Hippos! They're Hungry! They Eat! We already have Madagascar.

  3. How many seasons of a Saturday morning cartoon did they get out of Pac-Man? Qbert?

  4. Stoner comedy. The Hippos want to eat but they're too stoned to get to the gazelles! (Assuming Hippos eat gazelles to generate the 'agon,' and not for biological accuracy. Though i bet if you cut up gazelle and mixed it in their veggies, they'd eat it.)

When I saw "Triple-H" animated feature, my mind went, of course, to pro wrestling. I couldn't imagine Hunter Hearst Helmsley giving the pedigree in a children's animated film. Then I connected Hungry^2 Hippos. The pro wrestling animated film sounds better, honestly.

Are you not familiar with Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling, the animated series? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn1rRb8BmNo&feature=related

I am. And as terrible as it was, it would still be better than Hungry Hungry Hippos.
