YOUR WEEKEND CHALLENGE IS TO USE AS MANY AS YOU CAN IN ONE SENTENCE: According to Stefan Fatsis, author of the books
Word Freak and
A Few Seconds of Panic (and the Friday sports correspondent for NPR's All Things Considered), the words most likely to be added to the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary are
bestie, blondie, derp, ew, internet, janky, min, ohmigod, onesie, slumdog, spork, squee, twerk, ur, whassup/whazzup, & zen.
Nope, nope, eh, sure, Internet is a proper noun to me, OK, what?, that's three words, sure, what?, OK, no, no, Ur is also a proper name for a Mesopotamian city state, no and again, a proper noun.
ReplyDeleteHow many Scrabble and Scrabble knock-off FAQs have I read in the last decade which include a question like this:
ReplyDeleteQ: Why isn't [word] in your dictionary?
A: "Zen" is the most frequent request we get; it is a proper noun, so that's why. (remainder of answer is unimportant)
blondie (assuming brownie is acceptable) is fine, as is onesie. It surprises me that spork wasn't already there, and also gives me an excuse to leave this (starting around 4:32):

The only word I hate as much as I hate derp is amazeballs. The idea that derp will be formally acknowledged really upsets me. If amazeballs ever gets similarly recognized, I will threaten to do something drastic and not follow through on it but I will probably roll my eyes.
ReplyDeleteMy bestie said, "Ohmigod, Blondie, it's so derpy that ur squeeing about this janky spork all over the internet."
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, I have to go wash my hands now.
