IT'S NO "SECRET DWARF HOOKER," IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN:Given the demographics of our readership, it's probably pretty unlikely many will be attending a screening of the upcoming Robert Pattinson romance Remember Me, which seems to be sold primarily on the concept that it will be Twilight fans' first chance to see the Eclipse trailer. And that's why we'll take New York spoiling the ending, which is seriously sub-Nicholas Sparks territory.

Making a small bet before reading the article....Pattinsons character (or his co-star) died in a horrible accident years before and he/she is now a novelist writing about the alternate history where they had a blessed life.  So basically, the final season of Roseanne.

    Damn, so close.

I was SO disappointed that this was not, in fact, based on the Christopher Pike novel of the same name. I loved that book as a kid, and reread the series often.

My sister (she of the Edward and Jacob lifesized cardboard cutouts at work) is seeing this movie for the reason stated above. She has actually said she might not even stay for the whole movie.

  4. Or "Atonement," if you want to go all highbrow.

It's Robert Pattinson; if he ever returns to a Cedric-Diggory-level of work, then we can get all highbrow.  ;)

I loved Christopher Pike books when I was, like, 12.  They felt so scandalous!  Was Christopher Pike a real person, or a Corporate Conglomerate (aka Carolyn Keene)?  Why haven't his books been remade into angsty adolescent movies?

Possibly, though Wiki claims it's a pseudonym for one Kevin McFadden.

Part of me is disgusted that a fairly recent mass murder/national tragedy is being reduced to a plot twist in a romantic drama, part of me is desperate to watch the movie for 2001 clues, like jokes about hanging chads and distressed denim in the costumes.

The OUTRAGED comments over at New York are hilarious.

  10. The title alone made it seem like this one might be a downer, but I caught the preview when I saw Valentine's Day and was toying with the idea of seeing it. At least until I went to the imdb page to see what it's about (since you can't really tell from the trailer). I got as far as New York City, summer of 2001 and that plus the title was enough to clue me in to where the plot was going. Much as I'd like to see old Cedric Diggory in something else, I'll be skipping this one. Still too soon for me.

  11. Pattinson's demo is young enough to merely find this crazy romantic and see it over and over.  This is "Titanic."  Ugh.

  12. I loved Christopher Pike's "Remember Me," and also hoped this movie was an adaptation!  I remember so many details from that book, but mainly the horrible outfit the dead girl was wearing on the front cover of my paperback.:)  It was so well plotted, I'm surprised it hasn't been made into a movie.  I've only seen one Pike movie adaptation so far - a tv movie (Lifetime, maybe) of "Fall Into Darkness" (maybe retitled?) the one where the girl fakes her own death by pretending she's been shoved off a cliff and setting up her friend for the murder.

I don't have any problem with the plot twist (and shouldn't, since I'm not going to see it), but around this web site shouldn't it be "the upcoming Emilie de Ravin romance"?

Holy Shit that is awful.  This is as if someone actually made "The Day the Clown Cried."  You can't even enjoy rooting for his character's death, now.

  15. So glad to know I wasn't alone in my Christopher Pike phase. Remember Me was by far my favorite follwed by Witch and Slumber Party. I would go see any of those movies long before this junk.

  16. Grossed out by the movie, but highly amused that it evolved into a Christopher Pike discussion.

You would be surprised at how many of my conversations evolve into discussions about Christopher Pike novels.

Did Christopher Pike write his books before or after he was exposed to Delta rays?

Everytime I hear a reference to Christopher Pike, I assume it's about the Enterprise captain.

So did my husband, when I told him about this thread... "What does a sparkly vampire have to do with Star Trek?" was the response I got.

To all of the C Pike lovers - many of us here in La La Land have reached out to Mr Pike and tried to make films out of his movies, but he's been...shall we say...well, sort of the opposite of Stephen King about it.  It's a bummer.

Also - re the RM twist - I read the script when it had both that twist and the brother dying 8 years earlier set-up - but I'd heard Summit had taken it out of the final movie.  I guess they (re-)changed their minds...

  24. Er, I was also hoping that this was an adaptation of a Christopher Pike novel. Damn. I won't bother to see it now, to be honest. My other favourites of his were "Season of Passage" and "See You Later". And yes, the yellow and green outfit Shari wears on the cover of "Remember Me" is pretty awful...however, I did read these books more than a dozen years ago. When yellow and green pedal pushers were all the rage.

I'm still pissed about all the swooning over R-Patz's look when it's basically John Wesley Harding, circa 1995.
