EVERY MORNING AT NINE:  I'm glad to welcome to the blogosphere a friend to many here, Ajit Pai, whose new blog highlights the obituaries of the day.  I mention this now because I look forward to his take on an obit now running in the Times, as "Had Ear Cut Off By Captors" is not a phrase I'd want in the headlines about my death.  (Nor would I want to have my ear cut off. Do read the story of J. Paul Getty III; it's quite Bunny Lebowski-esque.)

  2. That is cold.  Charging your son interest on the ransom money to save your grandchild.  just wow.

  3. Thanks very much for the mention, Adam!  I hope you and ALOTT5MA readers enjoy Every Morning At Nine (etymology here: http://profile.typepad.com/ajitpai).  I'll soon tackle the intriguing Getty obit -- how could I not with a headline like that?  Also on tap is a remembrance of Poppa Neutrino, who sailed across the Atlantic in a boat made of 17 tons of junk he collected from various city streets.  After the trip, he delighted in having "broken the scrap barrier."
