CRICKET? TOO POPULAR: Sports being considered for addition to the 2020 Summer Olympics include wakeboard, squash, sport climbing, rollersports, karate, and wushu, as well as the reintroduction of baseball or softball. Surfing, dancing, and bowling missed out.

My daughter's a sport climber, so I'm partial, especially since she competes in the most TV friendly event, speed climbing. Although I told her it would be even more TV friendly if they had an American Gladiator chasing her.

2. I would pay good money to see many of the American Gladiators events staged as Olympic competitions.

Rollersports? Like roller hockey? Or roller derby? While it's unlikely I'd try to catch any of the proposed new sports, I might try to see Olympic roller derby.

If roller artistic disciplines doesn't involve twirling a long ribbon, I want no part of it.

How about Rollerball? (James Caan version, not Chris Klein.)

Actually not bad. By my arbitrary guidelines that a sport should be primarily decided by objective scoring:

SPORT:

Squash
Speed climbing (but only if they have to ring a bell at the end)
Any roller sport involving racing
Karate
Wushu
Baseball
Softball

Not A Sport:
Wakeboard
Any sport climbing or rollersport that's judged on a subjective level

The other aspects of sport climbing aren't subjective. They involve a series of holds that have a degree of difficulty, and you get points based on how much of the problem you complete. Generally, the participants complete two qualifiers on the first day, a semi-final on the third, and a final (damn near impossible to complete) on the fourth.

Bouldering is done without ropes and is generally more horizontal than vertical, sport climbing involves ropes and heights up to 60 feet. Speed climbing is basically who's the fastest up a fifty foot wall.

What the hell is wushu? Doesn't that come with pancakes and hoisin sauce?

THere's an amazing lack of proper competition Wushu on YouTube, mostly coreographed dances, but this video should give you the idea.
