EVEN FURTHER DOWN IN THE HOLE:  Because of last night's Pennsylvania primary election and its aftermath, today's Wire Wednesday has been postponed. To stay on schedule, next week we'll handle two episodes -- "Hard Cases" and "Undertow".

In lieu of a substantive post, then, this question: if you resolved to be a part of Wire Wednesdays as a New Years resolution, how many episodes have you seen so far?  Are you way ahead of pace, at pace, or are you still in The Pits?

I rewatched S1 about a month or 2 before this started, so was following along but not wathing. When S2 started, I was behind - just watched Eps 1-4 this week to catch up and be ready for today. So, I am finally at pace.

    Irony.

  2. I resolved to watch The Wire this year and started watching around the time that Wire Wednesdays began. I'm not sure I ever meant to watch only one episode a week, though.  I'm now somewhat ahead of pace - near the end of season 3.

It does make it hard to keep up with the weekly posts - unlike some other shows, I find that Wire seasons blend together as a whole and individual episodes don't always stand out (moments do stand out, but I don't usually remember what episode they were in), so it's difficult to comment on individual episodes much later without risking a spoiler.

I went deep and watched all the way to the end of the series in a few weeks (sometimes there's a lot of downtime).   It was satisfying until I looked up from the computer: "MY LIFE!"

Started with the Wire Wednesdays one a week plan, then raced ahead and finished season 2 a month or so ago.  But, haven't been able to start on season 3 yet.  By the time I am able to start on season 3, I'll probably be just about even with the one episode per week schedule.

I'm bad -- I haven't even started Season 1.  It's still sitting on top of my DVD player.  Maybe I'll get started soon -- once I get started, I'll probably love it and watch it all as quickly as possible.

  8. For most of season 1 I was at pace, and then jumped ahead about 4 episodes of pace. And in season 2 I'm ahead as well -- just about to start episode 9. I agree with Sue that this is a show that's hard to comment on when you're ahead, as things blur together. It's also a show I find hard to only watch one episode at a time -- I always want to just keep going.

  9. I watched eps 1-5 of Season 1 on DVD. And then stopped because of the hurdle of laying hands on more DVDs.

Now I've got HBOGo and I plan soon to hoover them up like Tony Montana with a line of blow.

My wife and I watched the first episode of Season 1 the weekend before the first Wire Wednesday post.  The next weekend I think we watched the rest of the season.  We finished the entire series a couple months ago.  So, um, yeah, we're ahead of pace.  Oops.

I am staying on pace and it is killing me - KILLING ME! Having HBOGo sitting there, staring at me all day when I'm supposed to be working is pure torture.

  12. Like others, I started with the group but couldn't stop.  My wife and I finished the whole thing a couple of weeks ago.  Haven't conclusively decided what's next.

Started off behind, but now way ahead (starting Ep. 3 of Season 5).  HBOGo makes it so damn easy to watch.

  14. I am doing it through Netflix DVDs and I'm about 2-3 episodes ahead.  Given how crazy my schedule is, I appreciate the once-per-week episode, as I've been able to keep up.  I couldn't do it faster.

  17. We finished the series about a month after starting the Wire Wednesdays project. this was accompanied by many lamentations: "Why did we wait so long to watch this show?!?!?"

I'm on pace, and it's been working well for me. If going faster would get more people to comment, I'd be happy to speed up.

Well, I am halfway through season 3.  While I am finally fulfulling a New Year's Resolution (!), this makes commenting difficult.  But I am enjoying reading along.
