AWESOME SAUCE:  Vulture's Margaret Lyons makes the reasonable prediction that Chris Pratt should host the SNL season-opener on September 27.

Pratt would indeed be a terrific host, and I'm sure he'll get there at some point this season. But Wikipedia says (AND WIKIPEDIA IS NEVER WRONG ABOUT ANYTHING EVER) that it'll be Bill Murray (who will have St. Vincent to promote), with Grande/Azalea as musical guest. Though the Wikipedia info seems to come from one news report that appears to be no longer available...

I'm always a little surprised when this dolls around and 17 days out SNL still hasn't announced an opening week guest.

  4. That post has also been edited--apparently week 2 will be Sarah Silverman/Maroon 5. (Both Pratt and Silverman are first time hosts.)

Would Sarah Silverman be the SNL cast member with the least successful tenure to return to host? Looking a Wikipedia, her only real competition would be Robert Downey Jr. or Damon Wayans.

Makes sense for NBC to take the opportunity to promote the final season of Parks and Rec as the world's only source for Pratt between Guardians and Jurassic Park 4.

I was going to ask a slightly different question: is this the longest gap between end of show tenure and first guest-hosting?

Other competition for your question: Ben Stiller.

I bet this winter we get promos that make Parks and Rec look like "Andy and Friends."

Dan Aykroyd, despite various appearances, wasn't actually host until 2003, which is I think 24 years to Silverman's 20.

Also, Julia Louis-Dreyfus left end of 84-85 season, first hosted May 2006, so I think she beat Silverman too. (93-94 season to Oct 2014).

Or Janeane Garofalo, if she had something big enough to promote to be invited as host.

Shame about the lack of a music guest.
