WHERE THE DRINKS ARE IMAGINARY: If ALOTT5MA had a podcast, I fully expect that it would be a whole lot like NPR's new-ish Pop Culture Happy Hour, which this week manages to incorporate not merely a pretty insightful discussion of last week's Creative Arts Emmys, but a discussion of pop culture figures that seem primed for rediscovery that somehow (d)evolves into a monologue about Gymkata. Check it out.

Stylistically, I'd go with d/evolve; though the correct term is probably mutate.

When I was 16, I had a job at a pizza place. I usually got closing on Fri/Sat, which meant I'd get home around 2 a.m., and turn on the Channel 3 Late Late Movie. This movie was Gymkata at least once a month. I've also seen most of Michael Dudikoff's filmography multiple times.

The definitive piece is yet to be written about the Dudikoff-Steve James buddy flicks.

    A) For those who subscribe to podcasts through iTunes, the link.

    B) My acquaintance Suicide Blonde's review of Gymkata after I recommended it to her (actual quote from her husband, as she related, "THis looks terrible!  We have to watch it!")

    C) GYMKATA!

While I haven't listened to Pop Culture Happy Hour yet, Linda Holmes has been doing great work on NPR's Monkey See blog -- just about everything she's written lately has been on target.

Gymkata always now reminds me of "Gun kata" from that Christian Bale movie equilibrium: things that sound awesome on paper, but in no way, shape, or form actually translate to the big screen.

What other katas might be out there? Chefkata? Or, given what blog we're on, maybe a Tayehkata built around SYTYCD contemporary moves? Actually, that doesn't sound half bad... i'd happily watch Kathryn kick b-movie butt. Heck, cast Robert as an extra and *she* can drop *him* for a change!

    Emmy related.

I'm a fan of Glee and Modern Family. I'm a fan of Robert Lloyd -- as both a writer and a mandolin player. Mr. Lloyd is not a fan of Glee and Modern Family.

Absolutely.  One of my favorite recent RSS subscriptions.
