RIPPED FROM THE SCHEDULE: Deadline Hollywood is reporting that due to high costs and an uncommonly strong drama development slate, Law & Order will have to remain tied with Gunsmoke as the longest running TV drama, ending its 20 year run in just a few weeks. SVU will return, CI will stay on USA, and L&O: Los Angeles will likely launch in the fall, while Law & Order: UK (Britishized versions of older scripts) runs in the UK.
ETA: Other sources (EW and Futon Critic) say there's still a chance for a pickup.
I heard it was a negotiation tactic, but who knows?
ReplyDeleteChung ... NOOOOOOOO! This is like canceling The Simpsons, kinda, insofar it's a show which should never be off the air, ever.
ReplyDeleteEven if the Mothership is cancelled, we can still be content in the knowledge that every hour of the day, an episode of one version of L&O will always be on TV. Though, if true, this can't be good for New York's actors.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame. "Original Recipe" has been really good this year. I would have been happier losing either of the other two.
ReplyDeleteIt's official. Andrew is right, it's not good for NY actors. This is what keeps NY actors fed so they can be on Broadway and do other parts. It's a shame, really. Do we really need another cop show in LA?
ReplyDeleteWhat about L&O: Milwaukee or something?
Good Wife has started to become a pretty reliable home for NY theatre actors (as has, more strangely, Gossip Girl), and USA has started generating some work here with White Collar and Royal Pains. Of course, the production facilities this opens up (as well as NY's general gernosity with tax credits) should make some other shows think--Castle would be an at least somewhat stronger show with more real location shooting.
ReplyDeleteWow. Is it because I'm a lesbian?
ReplyDelete(Though I haven't watched in years, I couldn't resist that.)
