HEAT OF THE MOMENT:
A Russian man died in the finals of the international sauna contest, after sustaining severe burns in a 230-degree sauna. I would note that while I like a good sauna and like a competition that tests the tolerances of human static endurance -- unlike with competitive eating -- a human being cannot vomit up heat. According to contest organizers, the 12-year old event will not be held again.
It's too darn hot.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there something like this on a recent Amazing Race? How hot was that?
ReplyDeleteThere was that cold chamber in central europe (Czech?) that was at about -140; and of course the Sauna Bus -- and that wasn't all that hot, it was just a photogenic timeout.
ReplyDeleteRick Reilly just wrote about trying this. Now he'll be even more insufferable.
ReplyDeleteAlternate title suggestion: "It's like a sauna in here!"
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I don't understand how anyone would think this type of contest is a good idea. It's like that stupid water drinking contest some radio station sponsored a few years ago. The one where the mother died from drinking too much water in too short a time - all to win a Wii. Stupid.
