REALISTICALLY SPEAKING, YOU DO NOT F*** WITH A SPECIES THAT CAN DO THAT: Given Das Boot, there is no movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen I won't pay full freight to see. Given 2005's science fiction masterwork
Old Man's War, there is no John Scalzi novel I won't buy in hardcover.
That Paramount bought OMW for Petersen to direct makes me a very very happy movie goer.
"WHERE ARE YOU FROM!"
ReplyDelete"OHIO, SERGEANT!"
Ooooh, do I have hopes for this one.
Oooooo - Mr. Cosmo and I really liked these books. Very excited.
ReplyDeleteThis also reminds me that I have 2 (I think) books still to read in the series. But yes, Old Man's War was pretty damn good, and very cinematic in conception and structure.
ReplyDeleteThere's Old Man's War, Ghost Brigades, The Lost Colony and Zoe's Tale, just to refresh your memory.
ReplyDeleteNow where's something else set in the milieu of Android's Dream?
Scalzi was writing a sequel to be called "High Castle" but it's shelved for now. Next novel is reboot - for lack of a better word - of L Beam Piper's Fuzzy books
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was right; read the first two.
ReplyDeleteexcellent. on the list.
ReplyDeleteIf Master Sgt Ruiz's introductory speech/weed-out is well-done, it will immediately vault to the top spot of all drill sergeant tirades.
ReplyDelete"Godd--m that's inappropriate!"
Wow. Now it's at the top of the list. Anything that eclipsed R Lee Ermey's Gunnery Sgt Hartman in Full Metal Jacket would cause a substantial revision of my worldview.
ReplyDeleteRead Old Man's War last week on the strength of your recommendations. Wow! Ghost Brigades is now on the ipad.
