THE YEARS THEY FLEW AND WE NEVER KNEW: Yes, our old friend** Alex Balk's appreciation of the Madonna song "I'll Remember (Theme from With Honors) is cute and all, but it's the question from Anil Dash in the comments that I want to present tonight: "Serious question: Least hot Madonna song ever? Maybe tied with This Used To Be My Playground?"

** Did you know we're now at seven years post-TMFTML?

  1. It depends on how you characterize "hot."  A few that are worth discussing:

"Cherish"--Actually a great song ('Romeo and Juliet/they never felt this way, I bet" is nice wordplay), but works because it's played as innocent rather than "hot."

"The Power of Good-Bye"--Wasn't this used as a theme song for "Felicity" for like half a season?

"Don't Tell Me"--The weird country/acoustic guitar vibe is kind of the opposite of hot.

I'm here for the asterisks...and WOW...was it only that long ago? TMFTML lies waay back in the internets past with all my high school blogs I read, I guess. (Throwing Things just kept...existing...which is (80% of) why I still read it. :)

  3. Papa Don't Preach is pretty unsexy.

  4. Other non-hot Madonna songs, all for different reasons:
    "Papa Don't Preach"
    "Oh Father"
"American Life" - a song I still like, even though I could never defend it.

That's probably going to be on my tombstone.  "Just kept ... existing."
