APPARENTLY, SOMEONE IS GOING TO ROAR:We're getting too old to be the target demographic for MTV's Video Music Awards, so we won't be offering full live team coverage, but a show that's going to feature some sort of NSYNC reunion, and a diva-off between Katy Perry and Lady Gaga is at least worth a comment thread.

Apparently, people are speechless over Miley.

What is twerking? I saw ~25 minutes or so before I got started on Breaking Bad and it was as awful as you can imagine. I think we are in a 'down' time for music.

  3. 1. Twerking is to "dance in a sexually suggestive fashion by twisting the hips."

    2. While many of the performances last night were pretty awful, for the most part, the songs nominated in the top categories are all pretty darn good pieces of pop craft.

I'm not sure whether Miley's "minstrel show" (thanks, Vulture's Jody Rosen) or Walt's "confession" had my jaw closer to the floor.

(Okay, definitely BB. To what depths have these characters plunged!))

As soon as Justin Timberlake's tribute to Justin Timberlake is over, I'll post a recap.

I don't pay close attention to Justin Timberlake, but if what you're saying is you don't think you're going to be posting a recap any time soon, that's okay.

John Brougher (and others) covered it well: http://www.buzzfeed.com/johnbrougher/the-best-possible-twitter-reaction-to-the-nsync-re-bnqi

Re Miley, I have to have written sometime before about the difference between authentic shocking behavior and "shocking" behavior. Like, had she used her platform to advocate for military intervention in Syria, that would have actually been shocking.

Then I suppose I do not like pop craft music. Of course, nor am I the target demo for it.
