AND WE WILL NEVER GET TO SEE THE HIGH-STAKES FIZZBIN TABLES: Behold the concept art for the original winner of the plan to revitalize downtown Las Vegas -
a full size dry-docked replica of the USS Enterprise. I will never look at the Fremont Street experience again with anything but regret.
They were talking about this on the Nerdist podcast today...and I had an urge to go back in time to 1992 and leak the story to everyone on the (non-existent) Internet.
ReplyDelete1. As a general rule, the Fremont Street Experience is filled with regret (though the Nugget is quite nice).
ReplyDelete2. I think part of it is you have to remember where the franchise was at that time--Trek VI had just flopped, and TNG was nearing the end of its run, with the next two shows in the franchise not even containing an Enterprise on a regular basis. I expect a factor might have been that they didn't want to be tied to the "classic" Enterprise as a long-term symbol of the franchise--remember that what ultimately got built in Vegas revolved around Borg and Klingons, rather than the Enterprise itself.
