GO (MODESTO) NUTS!: So, the Little Earthling and I are planning a short road trip this summer to catch a few minor league games in the Central Valley. Most likely the Fresno Grizzlies, Visalia Rawhide and Modesto Nuts.

I see this clever baseball road trip planner on ESPN but either Chrome is incompatible with it or it's yet to be populated with minor league schedule data. Yes, of course, I can probably plan this by hand if I just do Central California, but I'd like to plot a few other itineraries as well to see if something else might be worth a Mariners-Aqua Sox-Rainiers trip or an Arizona-Albuquerque one.

To wit, can anyone out there point me to a itinerary planner that works? It must include minor league teams to be useful.

It looks like you can add the minor league teams using the drop downs at the top of that planner.

Yes, except all the data fields for the minor league teams are blank.

I now see your problem.  And it's not just Chrome - no data in IE or Firefox either.  Worldwide Leader, my eye.  And none of the other sites that turned up on Google have minor league schedules.

You could do what I did when I was planning a ballpark trip in 1992 - write letters to the teams' front offices and ask them to send you a pocket schedule. Ahh, what we did before the Internet.

Alas, we schedule by hand for just this reason.

We have a ridiculous number of minor league parks within an easy drive of Chicago - whenever you and TLE want to come do a Midwest tour, you have a place to stay and touring companions at the ready.

You know, I still can't beleive I didn't do more baseball trips when I was in Chicago.  Other than the Cubs and the White Sox, I only ever got out to the Kane County Cougars.  Never even went up to Milwaukee!

That ESPN site appears to be a zombie site -- the parent SportsTravel site no longer exists.

Sadly, I don't know of any itinerary planner that includes minor league baseball.

Oh, that's too bad. Old County Stadium was awesome.

We've seen the Kane County Cougars, Schaumburg Flyers (which have changed their name to something else now...), the Gary Railcats, the Beloit Snappers and the Clinton (IA) Lumber Kings (by far the best one). This summer we're intending to see the Windy City Thunderbolts and the Joliet Jackhammers, and we may make it to Peoria as well.

Michigan is also full of parks - we took a romantic weekend two summers ago and say the Western Michigan Whitecaps and the Lansing Lugnuts (Goooooo Nuts!), both of which were well worth it.

We will, of course, be more than happy to revisit any of these with the Earthling Clan.

I don't know of any actual solution to your problem, but as a native Fresnan, I think it's awesome that you're going to Fresno!  Go Grizzlies!  This has to be the first time that Fresno has been mentioned on this blog.

We were very impressed with the new Stockton Ports stadium.  There's a lesson there about municipal bankruptcy, but -- wow -- what a nice little park.  And yes, we'd love to get some baseball in with you guys.  Let me see how Little Earthling likes a road trip.  If it works, maybe we can find a cheap set of tickets out that way.
