IF THE ROOTS ARE INVOLVED, I'M ALL FOR IT: The Academy
apparently wants Jimmy Fallon to host the Oscars, but ABC is less than happy with the idea of using an NBC talent as host. Not since Letterman's disastrous hosting effort in 1995 has someone identified with another network hosted the Oscars (though syndicated and cable talk show hosts have). Fallon could be ridiculous fun, to be sure, and would be a way to youthen the broadcast while still keeping the focus on comedy.
"Youthen"???!! Oh, just go the full nine yards there and use "Youthenize"
ReplyDeleteReplace the orchestra with the Roots? Please?
ReplyDeleteIf this happens -- and I pray it does -- can we bring back the Best Original Song category?
ReplyDeleteI meant "the Best Original Song performance".
ReplyDeleteM-W says it's a word, but I second the motion for a declaration of verbal shenanigans.
ReplyDeleteOf course, part of this depends on whether you think Letterman was a disaster (Goldberg was the disaster to me).
ReplyDeleteSome dictionaries also allow for the word "signage." Some dictionaries personally offend me.
ReplyDeleteHe should have just said it could embiggen the youth demographic.
ReplyDelete"Youthen" is a perfectly cromulent word.
ReplyDeleteI would die of happiness if they did that. Well, that, and if Jimmy had beer pong re-match with Helen Mirren onstage. I'm a simple woman.
ReplyDeleteMy parents like Fallon; can he "youthen" anything?
