DRAPER, DRAPER, FALLING, FALLING // DRAPER, DRAPER, FALLING TO THE GROUND (2X): Have we come to a consensus that those are the words to the Mad Men theme music?
[Sepinwall has the recap; I just wanted to get that off my chest. But, sure, we can talk about Peggy v. Joan and the merits of voiceovers and Mountain Dew.]
Shouldn't it be "Draper, Draper, falling to the couch'?
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to watch this episode until last night. The voiceover -- if they did it all the time, I wouldn't like it. But in this instance I think it worked because it showed that Don is actually thinking about things and gave us a little window into those thoughts. I especially liked when he said about Bethany, "She wants me to know her, but I already do." And so he does. She's Betty 2.0, and he's been there, done that.
ReplyDeleteTo me the most fascinating thing about this episode was the Peggy/Joan showdown. As a modern woman, I'm much more of Peggy's view, but Joan has her own way of handling things that has served her well, and I sympathize and understand her desire to hold on to the only power she has. Joey's line about Joan walking around waiting to be raped was like a punch in the stomach to her (and to me, frankly) and I think she just wanted a chance to deal with it. She certainly wanted the appearance of not needing help, and I think we can all understand that.
