LIVE FROM NEW YORK, IT'S SOME PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TRY AND GET AN EMMY NEXT YEAR! With last night's announcement that Emma Stone will host SNL on October 23, seems that we have our first five hosts locked down--Amy Poehler, Bryan Cranston, Jane Lynch, Stone, and Jon Hamm, starting next week. That's 17 hosting slots left to fill--I'm sure we can do it.

I'm kind of surprised that they didn't fit Timberlake in these first few episodes given the release date of "The Social Network." He's got to be back some time this season thought, right? Christmas episode? Season finale?

Maggie, JT was my first thought too. Black Swan could have us in for another Natalie Portman round and 127 Hours might bring James Franco back.

This is where I reiterate my lifelong dream to see Kermit the Frog host Saturday Night Live.

  4. Community people - Joel McHale, Ken Jeong or Chevy Chase?

Oh maybe someone from Modern Family too. Eric Stonestreet or Ty Burrell? Really anyone. They should have Manny host!

Eric Stonestreet (unless they have a problem promoting other networks' shows -- something I've never really noticed, since I can never tell you what channel something is on).

  9. I expect McHale will host after the Comcast merger closes, since E! is owned by Comcast. I'd certainly prefer him rather than most of E!'s other stars.

  10. Also, I have to assume that on the short list of people they'd desperately love to get to host for the press but would never agree? Bill Clinton.

Joaquin Phoenix as part of his reputation reclamation tour? Wilford Brimley as the yin to Betty White's yang? Katy Perry as the host/musical act combo that they've been doing more of lately? Or, NBC could promote its funniest character on its funniest show and sign up Ron Swanson.

Has Joel McHale guest hosted yet?

After seeing Zombieland for the first time the other night, I can see why.

Ben Affleck as part of the "Take A Hike, Haters" 2010 Tour?

Ooo what about Adam Baldwin? I bet he'd be awesome.

I want Nathan Fillion, Captain Tightpants himself. Also Christina Hendricks.

  19. Clooney hasn't hosted since 1995. Can we get him on once?

Totally agree on Filion, McHale and JT. Perhaps a NPH/Segel combo, not that they don't have the juice to host on their own, it would just be fun.

Also, in looking at the SNL host Wiki, there's a reference to Dane Cook losing out to Will Forte for a cast spot. Would we have been better off as a society if Cook had got the gig, been horrible at it and disappeared?

Totally agree on Fillion, McHale and JT.

Sign me up for them too. I think McHale would be a no-brainer, especially after showing he was game in the Emmy's opening number. And some combination of Don Glover/Danny Pudi could be pretty entertaining.

Glad Jon Hamm's coming back. He comes off as smart, funny, great to look at and willing to look silly. Pretty much a winning SNL combination. If one of his cast mates had to step up, I'd say John Slattery would be a good candidate. (Though Christina Hendricks seems funny, and could always break out her accordian for a musical number.)

What about Lauren Graham? She's funny, and sang and danced on Broadway, so she could fit the Anne Hathaway, JG-L multi-functional skit/song/dance mold. And either one of them would be good to have back, too.

Aaron Eckhart and Ewan McGregor both have films making the rounds, so they could pop up. (McGregor's done it before, no?)

Just thought of another actor, singer, dancer who could pull it off and be interesting to see: Michael C. Hall.

Hey, any thoughts on Joseph Gordon Leavitt?

I think he's done it before, no? I seem to recall an opening monologue with singing and dancing through the studio, and some impressive gymnastics...

Yes I quite liked his monologue last season although I cannot tell a lie Taylor Lautner's backflip was more impressive than JGL's backflip

  25. Joseph J. Finn11:11 PM

Right, he has but I wondered if he had anything coming up that might justify a return.

  26. It got lost in all the Inception hoo-hah, but the SNL monologue is the first thing I thought of during JGL's hotel fight scene.

Saw "The Town" tonight - it's a pretty good entry on that tour. Not life-changing but very, very good at what it was trying to be.

John Slattery could be great also.

Slattery FTW- actually a Slattery, Hamm, Kartheiser, Staton, Moss, Hendricks combo!

  30. I'll offer another one (and not just because she tweeted about her love for "What Up With That" this morning)--Elizabeth Banks. She has a movie due in November, which would be a logical hook.

Given her breakup with Fred Armisen (and the fact that he's dating Abby Elliott), I doubt Moss wants to be any where near the SNL set...

If being a good talk show guest is evidence of possibly high quality SNL hosting, I'd suggest Kristin Bell. She was on Craig Ferguson's chat show the other night, and was so funny and charming and willing to go along with the bits he'd worked out. And Tracy Morgan hasn't been back since 2009...

Don't know if he'd do it, but Stephen Colbert would be interesting...

  33. I would absolutely tune in for Tony Danza!
