AND THE WORLD MUST COME TOGETHER (AGAIN) AS ONE: Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones are inviting the assembled talent visiting LA for the Grammy Awards to stick around an extra day for a 25th anniversary re-recording of "We Are The World" to benefit Haitian aid efforts.
Alright, Thing Throwers, time to assign the contemporary artist to the correct lines/parts. (It's too obvious that Lady Gaga gets the Cyndi Lauper lines, right?)
Bono opens.
ReplyDeleteI actually think the Cyndi Lauper line should be sung ironically by John McCrea.
ReplyDeleteThis exercise would be a lot easier if I remembered who originally sang which line. Or what those lines were. Or cared about, either. Frankly, as treacly feed-the-world songs go, I prefer "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
ReplyDeleteAdam's link lists both the lines and the singer(s) and yes, I also vastly prefer "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
ReplyDeleteI want Seth Rogan singing Dan Ackroyd's parts.
ReplyDeleteI'll put in a vote for the Canadian "Tears are Not Enough" which I find superior to both WATW and DTKIC.
ReplyDeleteI cannot hope to assign parts as I have no clue who anyone in music is anymore. But I'll take a stab at Rhianna and Jay Z for the Diana Ross/Michael Jackson verse.
And no one but Springsteen can do his line, and there's no reason for him not to do it.
Oh, and we need to figure out who the Dan Ackroyd replacement it. Probably Andy Samberg, right?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone from Nickelback participates, I want out of this game.
ReplyDeleteI think Bruce should still sing for Bruce.
ReplyDeleteBruce does Bruce, Bob does Bob, and Willie does Willie. Bill Hader does Lindsay Buckingham.
ReplyDeletewill they let him sing?
ReplyDeleteJust don't let Jermaine fill in for Michael--I believe his 15 minutes of post-Michael-death fame are OVER.
ReplyDeleteI see Alicia Keyes in the mix and possibly Taylor Swift and/or Carrie Underwood. I'm all for Gaga! Don't ask me why, but I like her.
The fact that Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones are behind this suggests that it's not going to be all that current. All of their friends who sang in the original are going to want in again. Is Lionel Ritchie going to sing? Because that's relevant. They'd get a better lineup if Nicole Ritchie and Rashida Jones put it together.
ReplyDeleteOooh, me too!
ReplyDeleteSeth Rogen is out - we want him for the Canadian re-recording of Tears are not Enough, though I guess you could use him since Dan Aykroyd is Canadian, too.
ReplyDelete(Nickelback are also Canadian, but we try not to publicize that fact - you're welcome to them)
