Meghan, you took the words right out of my mouth. Taylor Swift is cute and all, but the grammy producers really did her a disservice by putting her next to one of rock's greatest female talents.
In terms of putting old guard with new guard, I loved Elton and Gaga. What a huge moment for a 23-year-old girl who was singing at small local venues up until recently. I love her--and he seemed to be having a great time with it too.
As for the rest of the show, I liked Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas. Now that my girls choose the radio over the Wiggles, I actually know most of the music. Phew. Oh...the Jackson children were totally unnecessary and added nothing to the show. I think that family needs to stop parading everyone in front of a camera and move on.
Matt summed it up perfectly in the other thread ... Taylor is a good songwriter and good album artist. I think she even is a good live performer 1/2 the time. Taylor is not, however, a great vocalist. The pairing was terrible. Frankly, I don't think it was because she was terrible in comparison to Stevie, so much as they were both pretty bad. I did like the different take on You Belong to Me. Was nice not to have to hear the overplayed version again.
It's a bit daunting trying to get through the other whole thread, and I wasn't able to participate live. I was happy to see some love for the Zac Brown Band. Thought Gaga was fabulous, kinda hated the Beyonce performance - my almost 5 year-old loves Single Ladies (I know, no judgments) and I let him stay up to watch Beyonce, thinking it would surely appear in her medley. He was not pleased when it did not.
Oh, poor Taylor Swift. That duet with Stevie Nicks was, well, not good.
ReplyDeleteAfter how much audio was cut from Eminem's performance, shouldn't the title for this post just be, "You think I ................................"
